Education and Training to Prevent Sexual Violence in Our Communities

Learn, engage, and help prevent sexual violence in our communities

SATC provides education and training opportunities that help create safer, more informed communities.

You can choose how and when to get involved. Taking action can include many things from learning more about the topic, starting conversations to increase empathy and connection, building healthy relationship skills, or supporting prevention efforts in your school, workplace, or community. Receiving education about sexual violence prevention is for everyone, and there is no requirement to share personal experiences to participate in a safe, supportive environment.

Grade K-12 Sexual Violence Prevention Curricula

SATC Education Coordinators can provide sexual violence prevention education to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Developed by SATC and endorsed by the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education, these evidence-informed, age-appropriate lessons are divided across four unique curricula:

  • My Body Is Special (K-2)

  • My Body My Boundaries (3-5)

  • [respect] Middle School (6-8)

  • [respect] High School (9-12)

Curriculum Facilitator Training

The SATC Sexual Violence Prevention Curricula can be taught to any youth, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, upon completion of the Curriculum Facilitator Training (CFT). The goals of the CFT are to teach educators, counselors, administrators, and facilitators how to effectively provide sexual violence prevention education with a trauma-informed approach.

It is more than just a few lessons about body safety and autonomy. Sexual violence prevention education requires skills in challenging victim-blaming attitudes about sexual violence and promoting norms of equity, consent, and safety for all.

The CFT enhances those skills with an overview of sexual violence, its prevalence and impacts, how to respond to questions, comments, and disclosures by utilizing a best practices approach, and tools to prepare themselves, schools, parents/caregivers, and the youth to talk safely and respectfully about this sensitive subject.

Staff/Workplace Training

Training for professionals who work with children, youth, or adults and want to strengthen their response to sexual violence. A staff training provides professionals with an understanding of sexual violence and child sexual grooming, an awareness of the warning signs and impacts, how to support survivors and respond to disclosures, coverage of mandated reporter responsibilities, and how to access local survivor services should anyone under their care and supervision need additional support.

For Families & Caregivers

Educating parents and caregivers about sexual violence and abuse is vital to primary prevention efforts. Most presentations are prompted by a school community seeking buy-in from parents and caregivers as they engage in sexual violence prevention education to students. These types of presentations provide a small amount of sexual violence and abuse education paired with how to respond to grooming behaviors, and tips for communicating safe messaging to youth. Additional resources are also provided to support parents and caregivers to continue these important conversations at home.

Developed to meet your organization’s sexual violence prevention needs, SATC provides custom presentations and/or training. Topics may include online safety, boundaries and consent, responding to grooming behaviors, practice responding to disclosures, and bystander intervention.

In addition, we offer outreach presentations to share information about our services at SATC.

Why Prevention Matters

The direct care and support that SATC provides to survivors, and their families, extends to communities statewide through our prevention and education opportunities.

We focus on “primary prevention,” which means stopping sexual violence before it even has a chance to happen. Through various trainings, presentations, and workshops, SATC strives to increase awareness about sexual violence and empower our communities – from kūpuna to keiki – to live free from sexual violence and abuse.
